Where can I find more information about your HipHop dance troupe?

Our Mission: We are a troupe of individuals who, through the power of music and dance,
cultivate self worth, dignity & respect for all people.

Culture Shock was started in 1993 by Angie Bunch, a professional dancer, international presenter and Nike Fitness Athlete. Starting the concept as a way of teaching herself how to dance hip-hop, Angie gathered together a professional performing troupe of dancers, and by the end of the year, Culture Shock San Diego was born.

In the next few years Culture Shock would expand to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas and New York. With each addition of a troupe, the Mission Statement's concept evolved into a non-profit, youth outreach and community service program that is fueled purely by volunteerism.

In San Francisco, troupe members donated time to starting a free dance and performing group concept known as Future Shock. These troupes made up of young people from 8-17 years old, are our direct link to the community. By offering free dance instruction, a safe place in which to learn and play and a performing outlet, we found that the youth were more receptive to our drug free and healthy lifestyle message.

Since the original formation of these youth outreach troupes, each city has added their own versions of the Future Shock program. In fact, the Future Shock program has been recognized by Nike's P.L.A.Y. division, which stands for Participate in the Lives of America's Youth

Why doesn't your site have a published list of Master Teachers?

idancestudios is determined to offer the best available, cutting edge instructors. Because the world of dance, especially street dance changes so rapidly,  publishing a list would not be very helpful. As we book teachers we will publish their names and dates they'll be teaching.

What is HipHop?

HipHop music is the driving musical force in Pop Music today. HipHop dance, sometimes called "Street Dance" is the definitive style. HipHop style is used in videos by artists as diverse as Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, N’Sync, Lauren Hill, DMX, etc. HipHop because it's born from Urban-Inner City and Club roots is constantly evolving. idancestudios offers both  HipHop Classes, and street jazz classes. The HipHop classes are almost always core level HipHop style to HipHop music. Street Jazz takes much of the of the edginess of HipHop and blends it with basic jazz and main stream Pop music. Both classes  are intense and highly stylized. Most of our students take both.
